"That's no reason to block the TV!"

To tell you the truth I'm not sure I quite feel like writing in my blog tonight, but I don't want to risk losing interest in it so here I am, writing in it.

So I'm still playing this RPG, Planescape: Torment. I've got my player, "Nameless One," up to a level 9 Mage and no fewer than 5 companions (Morte, Anna, Ignuss, Dak'kon, and Fall-From-Grace). I'm not sure how far along I am in the game but I'm guessing I'm either close to or past the half way point. Actually the maximum level for the character I think is 20 so I may or may not be even close to half way done with this game. I really shouldn't be in such a hurry to finish this game as the experience of going through is much more enjoyable than is knowing everything there is to know and solving all the secrets. I just can't stand no knowing something, and there's never enough time to find everything in the time I have to do so.

There are so many incredibly long conversations in this game I can hardly believe it. And I have to talk to every character. Which means a lot of repetitive conversation strings. And I can't forget to go back to a particular conversation string, oh no that'll affect me the rest of the game. Fortunately a lot of the conversations are really quite interesting and manage to keep me interested long enough to read. I just ran through this "Brothel of Slating Intellectual Lusts" which is filled "Mind Prostitutes." No intercourse ya see, only lively debate and other adventures-of-the-mind. Pfff whatever. I got some experience for me character and gained a companion so what do I care?

So has anybody been following this California recall election? Here I am in the middle of it. As mentioned in a previous post I was rather offended by the apparent lack of coverage by the media, even the local California media. And oh hoe now what? A recall election? What the people didn't want Gray-out Davis? Imagine that! I could have told them that 18 months ago. All it took was a recall election and one of those annoying popular movements by the people and finally the media is forced to cover the story. If Arnold wins at least I'll be miles from a major celebrity. Well I already a miles now technically but more like a few hundred miles. Soon I'll be within 15 miles of good old Arnie. Ok I just gave away the city I live in. Good thing no one would feel like looking it up.

Now, what about my job? Yes, the tech support one. Ever since this damned virus got released the system we use to track calls, a queue of "tickets" that get dropped in when a call comes and no one answers it. When I left tonight there were 300+ tickets in the queue waiting to be called back. Still calls from Monday that never got returned, calls from noon today (Tuesday), lots of tickets. And of course the phone always ringing. Three lines at a time sometimes. Of course this virus is NOT our problem. It's not the ISP's fault, the problem wasn't caused by the ISP and the ISP never took any responsibility for blocking such things. Of course my particular ISP just happened to have tweaked some settings around the time this virus started propagating so that made the queue go even higher. And a range of access numbers happened to be turned off at this time. Even more tickets. But the virus isn't our fault but rather Microsoft's bug in Microsoft's operating systems (NT derivatives: NT4, 2k and WinXP).

Now me I'm not worried about my XP or 2k server computers without the fancy patch. I have a fancy Linux-based router/firewall ya see. No virus is getting into my network. Even if it got in some how my main computer still has a software firewall so I would still be covered. I think my 2k machine would be toast though. Good thing I'm closed tight thanks to the Linux firewall. I highly recommend whatever few people are reading this get their own software based firewall like Zone Alarm or Kerio personal firewall. No, I'm not link to the sites for those. I don't feel like linking to something that takes 10 seconds to google. Jeeze people just type it in and push ENTER. Not that hard. Ok enough ranting.

Well this entry hardly looks like 2 hours worth of writing. Well not 2 hours so much maybe it just feels like it. Anyway I'm going to bed now so here's the explanation of last entry's title and goodnight already.

The title of the last entry, "Don't touch that Herman, it's horseshit," isn't actually a pop-culture reference (at least so far as I know). This is actually a favorite quote of my recently departed grandfather's whom I still miss greatly. For instance I mentioned to him once that I had read a story about Bill Gates (CEO of Microsoft and richest man alive) giving away more than half his fortune for poor minority college scholarships and his memorable quip return was "don't touch that Herman, it's horseshit." His way of saying not to believe it. My grandfather was a very bright man with a sharp mind to the day he died. I think I have a little of that intellect in me but not nearly enough.

This blog is a combination "personal musings" (mostly satirical and dripping with sarcasm) ranging from what's going on in my life to my views on politics and various current events. For 2010 my goal is to make an entry every day for the entire year or at least as close as I can come to that goal as may be practical.
